About this painting
In 1990, the National Endowment for the Arts awarded an exhibition grant in excess of $50,000 for display of art consisting of a crucifix dsplayed upside down in a bottle of urine. Thomas Kennedy was so offended that he completed this portrait of a suffering Christ overnight. He wanted to finish it in order to utilize a scheduled talk show appearance the next morning as a platform for his outrage at what was being considered art and being funded by our tax dollars. -Here, as in most of his work, Thomas passion for his subject matter provokes strong emotions in the viewer. |
